Amazon Prime has just dropped a hilarious new comedy flick that viewers are already hailing as the “funniest” film of the year.
The star-studded Deep Cover, featuring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed, launched on 12 June to rave reviews from comedy enthusiasts.
Helmed by director Tom Kingsley, the movie spins the yarn of an improv teacher named Kat, brought to life by Bryce, who is roped in by a covert cop played by Sean Bean. The aim is to hire actors for sting operations targeting London’s criminal underbelly.
Kat enlists her students, Marlon (Orlando) and Hugh (Nick), for this riotous quest across the capital.
Here’s what the official synopsis teases: “Deep Cover is a fast-paced action comedy starring Bryce Dallas Howard as Kat, an improv comedy teacher beginning to question if she’s missed her shot at success.
“When an undercover cop offers her the role of a lifetime, she recruits two of her students to infiltrate London’s gangland by impersonating dangerous criminals.”
Penned by a writing team including Colin Trevorrow, Derek Connolly, Ben Ashenden, and Alexander Owen, Deep Cover also boasts a talented ensemble with Paddy Considine, Ian McShane, Sophie Duker, Susannah Fielding, and Katy Wix.
Despite being on the streaming platform for just a short spell, Deep Cover has already proven its mettle with film aficionados leaving effusive praise online, reports Mirror US.
Fans are raving about what they’re calling one of the greatest modern comedies, with one enthusiast exclaiming: “One of the great modern comedies hands down! Standout performances all around. I laughed so hard I almost came to tears! Was completely out of the blue for me and I had a blast! Watch it with as many people as possible. The laughs only get better with a bigger crew!”
Another viewer took to social media to share their amusement: “30minutes in and it might just be the funniest movie of the year for me. Deep Cover is comedy gold.”
Echoing the sentiment, another fan discovered the gem on Amazon Prime: “Stumbled upon Deep Cover while browsing through Amazon Prime. Surprised I haven’t seen anything on the timeline about this film. What a blast!” They continued to praise the cast and comedic elements: “Dynamic trio of Howard, Bloom and Mohammed, laugh out loud set pieces and performances – one of the best comedies I’ve seen this year.”
Orlando Bloom also received individual acclaim from a viewer who found the film both thrilling and hilarious: “Suspenseful and down right hilarious. Orlando Bloom is at his best in this film. He had me laughing harder than I have in some time. ‘These innocent, normal civilian trio and their reactions while trying to wing it through a way over their head gang environment will keep you entertained.”
Deep Cover is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
