Amazon goes big on gaming Black Friday discounts – 6 deals you can't afford to miss

Black Friday doesn’t officially start until November 29, but that hasn’t stopped retailers like Amazon from discounting thousands of items for the entire month of November.

With the Black Friday sales already in full swing, we’ve picked out some of the biggest and best gaming discounts available at Amazon.

From cheap consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series S, to full-sized arcade machines that will look great in the gaming cave, these are seven of the best deals you can find right now.

But hurry, because these items are likely to sell out fast, and the discounts won’t stick around forever.

PS5 Slim with built-in disc drive – Was £479.99; Now £399

With the PS5 Pro arguably not living up to its price tag, the reduced price PS5 Slim is looking like an absolute bargain, dropping to below £400 for Black Friday 2024.

The regular PS5 Slim comes with a super fast 1TB solid-state drive, as well as a DualSense controller and a built-in copy of Astro’s Playroom. If you’re not bothered by the lack of a disc drive, then the Disc-free model is reduced to £309.99.

If you want an additional controller, or maybe more storage, then individual PlayStation 5 DualSense pads are reduced to £39.99, while this 2TB Lexar external SSD is down to £103.99.

Xbox Series S – Was £249.99; Now £199.99

The Xbox Series S is slightly less powerful than the Xbox Series X, but it’s compatible with all the same games, and most importantly of all, it works with Microsoft’s superb Xbox Game Pass subscription.

Xbox Game Pass gives subscribers access to hundreds of games and online multiplayer, and all for just £9.99 a month. For £14.99 a month you can subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which adds day-one releases into the mix, including Black Ops 6, Microsoft Flight Simulator 24 and STALKER 2.

The only drawback is that it only comes with 512GB of built-in storage, so we would definitely recommend an additional 1TB SSD at the very minimum. This officially licensed WD_BLACK SSD is reduced from £149.99 to just £114.99. Microsoft’s stylish Xbox Series controllers are also worth a look, especially with prices starting at £38.99.

SanDisk 512GB Animal Crossing microSDXC card for Nintendo Switch – Was £45.99; Now £37.99

OK, so it’s not as glamorous as a new PS5 or Xbox console, but if you own a Nintendo Switch, then additional storage is a must.

These officially-licensed SanDisk cards give you the ability to store dozens of additional games, which seven years and thousands of releases later, makes it an essential purchase.

Full-size Arcade 1UP Time Crisis Arcade Machine – Was £699.99; Now £559.99

A dead genre unless you’re willing to go down the PC route with devices like Sinden, lightgun games are some of the most fun you can have, especially with two players.

This full-sized arcade machine comes with two guns for multiplayer, as well as four games, including Time Crisis, Steel Gunner, Point Blank and Steel Gunner 2.

If you’re not a fan of lightgun games, then Arcade1UP has a whole host of alternative arcade machines, many of which are discounted as part of Black Friday. You’ve got the excellent Marvel vs Capcom 2 cabinet for £389.99, the Street Fighter Legacy machine for £408, and a Mortal Kombat machine for £450.

Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller for Android and iPhone – Was £99; Now £69.99

Using the Backbone One is as simple as slotting your iPhone or Android device into the grip and connecting it to the Backbone’s USB-C port. You don’t need to charge anything, fiddle around with Bluetooth pairing or scroll through countless menu screens in order to get things working.

Once you’re plugged in, you can start enjoying all of your favourite titles from Apple Arcade, PlayStation, Xbox and even PC via the likes of GeForce Now. It’s a great way to play your favourite games on the go and via the cloud.

Just make sure your phone has a USB-C port and lots of data/decent internet connection to ensure compatibility with the best possible experience.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – Was £69.99; Now £34

One of the best games of 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. Unlike the more focused first part set in Midagr, Rebirth takes things outside the city and into the open world.

Not only does it continue the story and reveal more backstory about each character, but it’s full to the brim with side-quests and fun distractions that could easily take up hundreds of hours of your time.

There are actually a ton of decent games on sale this Black Friday, including Astro Bot for £43.99, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for £30 on PS5, Sonic x Shadow Generations for £29.99 on Switch, and the superb Metaphor: ReFantazio for £34.49.
