There’s a new Kindle coming to Amazon’s online store and it promises to offer the ultimate upgrade for e-reader lovers. The latest and greatest Kindle – which is called the Scribe Colorsoft – not only lets you scribble on the screen, write notes and add annotations, but it does it all with colour display. Amazon is no stranger to offering these improved screens, with the first Colorsoft Kindle launching late last year.
However, this is the first time it’s been available on a Scribe model. Those treating themselves to one of these new ultra-thin and light devices will get a colourful 11-inch display with texture-moulded glass.
The idea behind this is to give the feel of writing on paper when using the pen. It also gets a backlight for when the lights get low and there’s a better processor inside for faster page turns and improved overall performance.
Amazon is also promising weeks of battery life despite that new colour screen.
One of the criticisms of older Scribe devices was that they weren’t particularly useful, and their note-taking capabilities were somewhat limited.
That should now be fixed. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft works with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, so it’s easier to import documents for mark-up and export annotated PDFs.
Quick Notes have also been added so users can easily jot something down whenever inspiration strikes. There’s also an AI-powered search, which lets owners find things more easily across notebooks, along with getting simple AI summaries.
It’s all pretty impressive, but so is the price. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will cost a whopping £649.99 when it launches at some point in the future.
If that sounds a bit rich, a new black and white Scribe is also coming soon and will start at £449.99.
There’s no word on a release date just yet, but we’ll hopefully have more details soon.
The Scribe devices were just announced at Amazon’s autumn launch event in New York. Along with these e-readers, the firm also showcased upgraded Echo speakers, better TVs and a cheaper Fire TV Stick that can stream in 4K.
