Whether you have recently upgraded to the new iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air, or are using an iPhone that’s a few years old, you can now download iOS 26.0.1, the first ‘point’ update for Apple’s smartphones since the new models were announced.
iOS 26 launched on September 15, its number now aligning to the year in which it will be used the longest, which will be 2026.
But Apple regularly releases point updates to iOS to fix bugs and flaws in the system and to introduce new features. As the numbering 26.0.1 shows, this is a small update, but it addresses several issues.
Here are Apple’s official release notes for iOS 26.0.1:
This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone, including fixes for the following issues:
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth may occasionally disconnect on iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro models
- A small number of iPhone users may be unable to connect to a cellular network after updating to iOS 26
- Photos taken under certain lighting conditions with iPhone 17, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 Pro models may include unexpected artifacts
- App icons may appear blank after adding a custom tint
- VoiceOver may become disabled for some users after updating to iOS 26
Even if you don’t have an iPhone 17 or one of the latest iPhones, you should still head to your Settings app today and seek out the Software Update section. That’s because as well as the above fixes mentioned by Apple, the firm also pushes fixes for bugs that could be more malicious and lead to potential cybersecurity issues.
“With iOS 26.0.1, Apple has patched a vulnerability in its FontParser module (CVE-2025-43400), applying improved bounds checking to prevent an out of bounds write,” said Adam Boynton, Senior Security Strategy Manager EMEIA at Jamf.
“Because the issue has the potential to cause service disruptions or undermine system stability, we strongly recommend updating to iOS 26.0.1 at your earliest convenience.”
Boynton explained how seemingly innocuous bugs like this can end up causing you a lot of headaches.
“The flaw could be triggered by a malicious font delivered via a document, email attachment, or web content, and may lead to unexpected application termination or memory corruption.
“According to Apple and independent assessors, there are no confirmed instances of this vulnerability being exploited in the wild to date. However, that limited visibility should not lull users or organisations into complacency.”
The message is simple. If you have an iOS update waiting to be installed, you should insall it right away.
iOS 26 is compatible with all iPhones released in or after 2019. This includes the iPhone 11 and iPhone XS.
