Alanis Morissette blow for fans at Lytham Festival 'performance will not be continuing'

The Lytham Festival Friday night extravaganza has been axed due to grim weather forecasts, as confirmed by the event organisers.

Canadian songstress Alanis Morissette was set to take centre stage at the coastal festival in Lancashire, but the evening’s festivities have been scrapped.

Organisers cited the anticipated ‘adverse weather conditions’ and a forecast of ‘increasing high winds’ throughout Friday night as the reasons for the cancellation.

A decision was reportedly made on the ground in conjunction with local police while festival-goers were already gathered inside the arena.

Social media is awash with images showing a billboard at the festival announcing: “Ladies and gentlemen, this performance will not be continuing.”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Fans were instructed to exit the arena through designated routes and heed the guidance of stewards on site.

Acts such as Lottery Winners, Train, and Liz Phair were scheduled to perform, with Alanis Morissette expected to appear at 8.30pm.

There has been no update regarding the festival’s schedule for Saturday and Sunday, which is supposed to feature headliners Justin Timberlake and Simple Minds, along with acts like Texas, Cast, and Jess Glynne.

In their statement, TK Maxx presents Lytham Festival emphasised that safety is paramount and assured ticket holders they would be entitled to a full refund.

The official statement read: “Due to adverse weather conditions, we unfortunately have had to make the decision to cancel this evening. The safety of our customers, staff and artists is our priority and increasing high winds mean it would not be safe to go ahead.

“All customers will receive a full refund for tonight’s show. Please wait to hear from your ticket agent for further information.”
