Alan Titchmarsh has shared how Brits could be making a major garden mistake and it’s one you can easily put right. The British gardener and TV presenter is known for his expert advice on making the most of your garden, especially in spring.

He said you should resist the urge to mow your grass too early and you should instead wait until mid to late April. Titchmarsh said many gardeners make the mistake of mowing their lawns too early in spring. Grass remains dormant during the colder months, and premature mowing can weaken it.

Instead, allow your lawn to grow a little longer, giving roots time to strengthen. When you do mow, set the blades higher to avoid cutting too short, as this can stress the grass and encourage weeds.

Feeding your lawn with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer in early spring will promote lush, green growth.

As the weather warms up, another tip he often emphasises is preparing your soil and encouraging healthy plant growth.

Titchmarsh suggests simple yet effective ways to boost blooms and keep your garden looking vibrant throughout the season.

His approach combines practical knowledge with a deep love for nature, making his tips easy to follow for gardeners of all levels.

From clever planting techniques to subtle care routines, his spring advice helps create a perfect outdoor space.

Titchmarsh’s guidance is a reminder that with the right touch, any garden can thrive as the days grow longer.

The gardening expert also recommends sowing hardy vegetables at this time of year instead of leaving it until later.

He advises gardeners planting onions, broad beans, spinach, and early varieties of carrots.

These crops will benefit from the warming soil and will establish strong root systems before the heat of summer arrives.

By making these few small changes and starting work outside now, you can upgrade your garden for summer and create your dream outdoor space.
