If you’re a bread lover but never attempted making your own loaf, then good news – it doesn’t have to be a lengthy or complicated process. A viral Instagram bread tutorial has simplified the art of baking to just two ingredients and minimal effort.

The recipe, shared by Emily Scott, aka What I Ate For Breakfast, promises a delicious golden loaf – and it’s air fryer-friendly. Her video showed off her no-prove, yeast-free bread recipe that requires only Greek yoghurt and self-raising flour.

Forget about costly equipment or the long, tedious wait for dough to rise – this method is quick and straightforward, as I found out when I decided to try it for myself.

In her post, Emily explained: “The texture isn’t quite as light and fluffy as a loaf made with yeast (more similar to soda bread), but it’s soft with a delicious, crunchy crust and perfect for toasting or enjoyed warm from the oven slathered with butter.”

Tempted by the promise of an easy yet tasty loaf, I decided to try my hand at this bread-making hack. To my surprise, the result was nothing short of delicious – a tasty homemade bread, dare I say better than sourdough, that’s both simple to make and delightful to eat.

Here’s how you can whip up your own batch.

Air fryer bread

Ingredients – for the dough

  • 500g self-raising flour
  • 475g Greek yoghurt
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

For the topping:

  • One egg
  • Splash of milk
  • Tsp sesame seeds

Method

Begin by measuring out your flour and yoghurt into separate bowls.

To the bowl containing flour, add salt and give it a quick mix. Next, incorporate the yoghurt using your hands, a spoon or a mixer until you achieve a smooth dough, adding a dash of water if it’s too dry.

In the meantime, prepare your egg wash by beating an egg with a splash of milk – this will provide that beautiful golden glow when it’s fresh out of the oven.

Next, line your air fryer basket with baking paper and place your dough inside. Brush the egg wash over the top, and sprinkle with sesame seeds or any other toppings you fancy.

Using the bake function on your air fryer, cook the bread for 40 minutes at 160C.

You’ll know it’s done when you tap the bottom of the loaf and it sounds hollow. Mine required a bit more time so I left it in for another 15 minutes, but covered it with aluminium foil to prevent it from burning.

I won’t lie, I was petrified that the dough would rise excessively and I’d have a real task cleaning it off the air fryer mechanisms.

However, it turned out perfectly, and I couldn’t wait for it to cool down before digging in.

The crust was incredibly crunchy as I sliced the bread, with the interior of the loaf being wonderfully chewy – like sourdough but even better. After serving it to my family, they agreed that it was amazing, and they were shocked when they discovered it was made with only two ingredients.

It’s even more tasty when toasted, especially when served with butter or your preferred spread. This may have been my first attempt at baking bread, but it certainly won’t be the last, especially with recipes like this available.
