Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian businessman and the founder of one of the largest conglomerates in Africa, with key industries such as cement, sugar, flour, and oil refining. With an estimated net worth of £22 billion, he is the 67th richest person in the world as of February 2025, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The 67-year-old billionaire was born into the wealthy Hausa family and was the great grandson of the richest person in West Africa. Dangote is an Arsenal fan and even expressed interest in purchasing the club back in 2019. The billionaire is also known for owning a lavish mansion worth £23 million on Banana Island, one of the most prestigious and sought-after locations in Lagos, Nigeria.

Banana Island is an artificial island near Lagos, and is often referred to as a “Billionaires’ Haven” due to its collection of the most expensive and luxurious mansions.

Created to attract international attention, much like the famous palm-shaped islands in the UAE, Banana Island is a symbol of opulence.

The cost of a plot of land on the island runs into hundreds of millions of naira, and properties here are sometimes sold for billions.

It’s home to celebrities, business moguls, and politicians who seek the ultimate in luxury living.

The outside of the mansion is all white and the interior has large rooms with lavish furnishings and decor.

The mansion merges two separate sections into one expansive compound with two large swimming pools, and waterfront views.

Dangote reportedly shared that he has hosted numerous high profile guests at his mansion, including Bill Gates, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, and other notable figures he preferred not to name.

In 2024, the billionaire revealed he doesn’t own any property outside of Nigeria.
