The dog-loving Queen visited Battersea Dogs and Cats Home this afternoon to unveil a new garden designed by horticulturist and broadcaster Monty Don. Camilla, who is a patron of the charity, was introduced to several of the animals housed at the rescue centre, including a puppy named Ditsy.
The adorable pup, who had a blue collar and lead to match the Battersea logo, was held by one of the staff members as the Queen affectionately gave him a pet. Camilla then headed to unveil the new RHS and BBC Radio 2 ‘Dog Garden’, which featured at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.
The garden, designed by Mr Don, was created especially for dogs and has been relocated to Battersea’s London centre so it can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
Camilla toured the garden, escorted by Battersea Chief Executive, Peter Laurie, and Dawn Richards, Lead Horticulturalist at the RHS.
The new Dog Garden has been designed as a blueprint for all the things dogs love and will provide Battersea with a tranquil space for the rescue dogs in their care, allowing them to spend time away from the kennel environment in a serene, natural setting.
Her Majesty rehomed two Jack Russell Terriers from Battersea, Beth in August 2011 and Bluebell in September 2012. Sadly, Beth passed away in 2024. Earlier this year, Her Majesty welcomed a new Battersea dog into her home, named Moley.
