If you’re looking to upgrade your daily cup of tea, there’s one healthy ingredient you can add to it which will give it an extra kick. English breakfast tea is a daily staple for many Brits but you can easily make your tea healthier and enhance its flavour.

You might already add sugar to sweeten your tea or maybe you use honey instead but you could try herbs or spices which can give your tea a new taste. While it might not be the way you usually like to have your tea, some herbs and spices are commonly added to a variety of hot drinks so it is not as odd as it sounds. Who knows, it may be worth a try and bring some major benefits. There’s one in particular that has been suggested and that won’t be too overpowering in terms of flavour.

According to Dish Pairing, you can add ginger to your tea, it says: “Grate fresh ginger or use powdered ginger for a bold flavor.”

Your tea will be slightly sweet with citrussy notes and depending on the quantity you add, it may also have a slight spicy kick.

Ginger comes from a flowering plant originating in Southeast Asia. It adds flavor to sweet and savoury foods and has a range of health benefits.

It belongs to the Zingiberaceae family, and it’s closely related to turmeric, cardamom, and galangal.

Healthline says: “Ginger may have numerous health benefits due to anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, and other properties. It may aid digestion, reduce nausea, manage arthritis, alleviate menstrual symptoms, and more.”

You can even add fresh lemon or honey, or buy different flavoured tea bags, such as lemon and ginger or ginger green tea.

Heathline adds: “This versatile superfood is believed to have many health benefits, from possibly helping with digestion to relieving inflammation and muscle pain.

“Loaded with antioxidants and other key nutrients, the ginger root itself is said to potentially offer benefits against arthritis, infections, and possibly even various medical conditions.”

This one small addition to your tea could leave you feeling better and it might even become an everyday drink for you.
