If you want your home to smell amazing without using any chemicals, you can try this cleaning expert’s hack using a natural ingredient. Chantel Mila, known to her 1.5 million TikTok followers as @mama_mila, explained that putting cinnamon sticks in your vacuum before cleaning will make your home “smell amazing”.
She also suggests putting essential oils on cotton balls and placing them on your carpets before vacuuming to freshen them up. However, if you have pets, you should avoid this tip as essential oils can be harmful to animals.
In your bedroom, you can add clove oil onto a piece of chalk, before placing it in a bag and hanging it in your wardrobe to “absorb moisture” and prevent mould and bad smells, the cleaning expert explains.
To keep clothes smelling nice in a chest of drawers, you can add perfume or essential oils to an adhesive furniture pad, and stick this onto the inside of the drawer.
To deodorise and clean fabric furniture, such as fabric headboards, you can wrap a microfibre cloth around a saucepan lid and pull it taut.
Dip it into a mixture of soda water and dish soap before using it to wipe your furniture and lift any stains.
Mila, a mother of two, also recommends making fragrance bowls for a pleasant bedroom aroma.
You can add one cup of boiling water to a bowl with one sliced orange, and one spoon of vanilla extract, before placing it under a candle warmer.
Another scent option is to add a cup of boiling water to a sliced lemon, two sprigs of rosemary, and a spoon of clove and vanilla.
In your kitchen, you can place a bowl of vanilla extract in your oven for ten minutes to make the room smell “gourmand” and can pour boiling water down your drain to rid odours.
Mila deodorises her fridge using a mixture of a cup of water, a quarter of a cup of white vinegar, and vanilla extract.
Her other tips to make your home smell amazing include placing coffee beans in bags around your home, and sprinkling baking soda on bath mats before washing them to deodorise unwanted odours.
The cleaning expert also washes her walls and baseboards with a mixture of water, dish soap and peppermint oil.
Many of Mila’s home tips have gone viral – including cleaning your bath with a mop to stop back ache, using shaving foam on mirrors for a streak-free shine, and applying chalk to bathroom taps to avoid water marks.
She also recommends adding salt to a load of black laundry to prevent fading, and wiping bins with peppermint oil to keep bugs and odours away.
