Achieve a ‘Michelin-star’ sparkle on your glassware using 30p household staple

Cloudiness in glassware is often caused by limescale when they are placed in the dishwasher.

Over time, if the cloudiness builds up, it can seem impossible to tackle, especially if they keep being washed in the dishwasher.

John Cutts, founder of MeandMyGlass.co.uk, said: “It is easier than you think to get your wine glasses in sparkling condition before all your family and friends come over.

“One of the biggest mistakes we make when cleaning our wine glasses is to put them in the dishwasher – but this is a bad idea as the detergent and hot water can cause them to crack or turn cloudy.

“Instead, you should hand wash them and soak them in a white vinegar and warm water solution.”

White vinegar can help to restore the glassware, tackling the cloudy film that is left on the glass.

The eco-friendly cleaning product can be picked up from several retailers for as little as 30p a bottle.

The expert also recommended spending time polishing with some newspaper or a microfibre cloth.

Newspaper and microfibre cloths, provided they are clean, will help to give the glasses a sparkling finish.

John added: “Another tip is to swirl around uncooked rice to gently scrub the areas of the glass stem which can be hard to reach.

“Use some warm water to allow the grains to gently scrub the interior of the glass.”

When it comes to cleaning the wine glass, the expert advised starting at the top and working your way down.

John continued: “Work your way down cleaning the glass by starting at the top. This will allow you to inspect any marks all around and keep the glass as polished as possible.

“Hold your wine glasses over a bowl of boiled water to allow the steam to dissolve away any smudges, stains and residue marks rather than scrubbing the glass.”
