An Aboriginal artist, labelled Miss Kannina, has pretended to be strung up with a noose in front of Buckingham Palace, as seen on a TikTok post uploaded by the artist. While miming a noose around her neck, she lip-syncs: “If I ever met the king/ Break his neck with a string.” The clip ends with Miss Kaninna giving both fingers to King Charles’s administrative headquarters, Buckingham Palace.
Miss Kannina grew up on Bruny Island off Tasmania’s south coast, released her self-titled debut EP in September 2024.
She captioned her post: “Flew all the way to the UK to play my song in front of Buckingham Palace.”
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of the UK’s sovereigns since 1837 and today is the administrative headquarters of the Monarch.
The Palace is very much a working building and the centrepiece of the UK’s constitutional monarchy, serving as the venue for many royal events and ceremonies from entertaining foreign Heads of States to celebrating achievement at Investitures and receptions.
Miss Kaninna, whose real name is Kaninna Langford, staged an impromptu performance of her song ‘Pinnacle B****’ in London this week.
The artist also captioned the post: “YOUR NOT MY KING !! #Alwayswasalwayswillbe #Aboriginal #Landback #thecolonywillfall. The comments on the video uploaded by the artist have been turned off.
The website soulhasnotemp describes the artist as “Commanding stages from a young age, carrying forward the storytelling of her ancestors and fearlessly bringing them into the present. Her art serves as a powerful expression of her experiences as a young Black woman on stolen land, drawing from her rich cultural heritage and paths paved before her by her Matriarchs”.
