Abdul Ezedi: Police confirm body pulled from River Thames wasn't chemical attack fugitive

The body of a male has been found in the River Thames, near Greenwich, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed.

Police confirmed they were called to Victoria Parade shortly after 7.20am yesterday.

However, the forced added the body was not of Abdul Ezedi, the chemical attacker who is currently on the run from authorities.

According to cops, the death of the man found is being treated as unexpected as they continue to pour resources into tracking down Ezedi.

Efforts are also being made to confirm the man’s identity and inform their next of kin.

It had been believed the body may have been that of Ezedi, who has been on the run since dousing a woman and her two children in a chemical attack in Clapham last Wednesday.

But Scotland Yard moved to confirm the deceased was not Ezedi.

The 35-year-old’s actions last month has sparked a nationwide manhunt for the sex offender, who left his victim – believed to be a former partner – with life-changing injuries.

As part of its investigation, the Met Police continues to offer a £20,000 reward for information that could lead to his arrest.

In a statement, the police added: “Police were called at 7.22pm on Thursday, February 8. The body of a male was recovered from the water in Victoria Parade SE10.

“Officers are working to confirm the male’s identity and inform next of kin. The death is being treated as unexpected pending further enquiries.”
