UK hot weather maps turn red as coldest parts of Britain still hit 20C | Weather | News

Regions in Scotland and northern England are among the huge stretch of Britain painted red in weather maps as a heatwave looks set to bring temperatures between 20C and 30C across the whole of the country in a fortnight. New weather maps from WXCharts show the mercury soaring in even the coldest parts of the UK, with the Scottish Highlands and areas around the Pennines expected to hit up to 26C. The heatwave is forecast by these maps generated on June 13 to hit the country on Thursday, June 26. Temperatures will begin to climb in the southeast at around midday, before northeast Wales and Gloucester reach 30C in the early evening, according to the forecast.

The entirety of Northern Ireland is also expected to reach above 20C, with northwestern regions climbing to 26C, and usually chilly northern Scotland exceeding its seasonal average of up to 17C by almost 10C, the maps suggest. The scorching late-June weather is forecast to hold steady over the following days, with temperatures remaining above 20C for the whole of England at midday on Friday, with highs of 29C in London and Southampton.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for June 18 to June 27 also warns of “above normal temperatures”, likely to peak in southeast England.

While the last few weeks of June will intially be marked by “fine and dry” weather, hot spells could increase the risk of “heavy showers and thunderstorms”, the forecaster adds.

It comes after an amber warning for severe thunderstorms and intense rainfall was issued for parts of southeast England and East Anglia this weekend – even as England recorded its hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures hitting 29.4C in London on Friday.

Scotland also experienced its warmest weather in 2025 this week, with the mercury climbing to 25.7C in Lossiemouth.

Most parts of the UK are expected to be fine and dry at the start of this period, then a broad northwest to southeast split is likely to develop in late June. The wettest and windiest conditions are expected to be in the northwest, with spells of rain at times which may be heavy in places. Temperatures will likely be near normal or slightly above. More settled in the southeast with conditions drier overall, although some rain will probably spread from the west or northwest at times. There is also the risk that isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms could develop at times. Temperatures are expected to be above normal, perhaps with some hot spells in the southeast.
