Salmon can taste better when you add one thing to it before you put it into the oven to bake. It is a favourite mealtime dish for many Brits and it is considered a healthy thing to have on your plate because if its richness of healthy fats and protein, among other beneficial nutrients. But healthy food does not have to be bland. In fact, salmon can be one of the most delicious things if you know how to season it before baking it.
Salmon has a rich flavour that is totally different from anything else, so you will want to make sure that you pick your spices and herbs to perfectly compliment these flavours and not overpower them. When cooked, it becomes flakey and meaty and with the right seasonings, it really is a show-stopping meal, often paired with a side salad or roast potatoes. If you want your salmon to taste even better, then you should consider adding cumin to it before you put it into the oven.
According to Blue Glacier, expert salmon producers, one of the best spices you can add to salmon is cumin. “There are few foods out there that feel as comforting as a warm plate of cumin-dusted salmon fillets,” they explain.
“The best part is, if you cook the salmon on a skillet, it shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes to prepare! Just spray some olive oil on a preheated skillet, dust your fillets with the deliciously earthy ground cumin, and leave it for 5 minutes on each side, and voila. You’ve made yourself a healthy comfort food in no time.”
Meanwhile, GF Chow also recommend cumin as a spice to add to your salmon fillet. They actually make a cumin oil, which is comprised of cumin, olive oil and paprika and they spoon/brush it over the salmon fillet.
They then place the salmon in an oven on a high heat and let it crisp. They cook it for between 8 and 10 minutes but you can leave it in for longer if you prefer your fish to be a bit more well done.
When it comes to flavouring salmon, the possibilities are pretty endless. Among the herbs that Blue Glacier recommend you cook salmon with are rosemary, thyme and corriander.
They also list options like curry powder, mustard seeds, salt and pepper with lemon juice, paprika, cayenne pepper and garam masala. Meanwhile, Reddit users suggested many things in a recent thread with examples including soy sauce with honey and sriracha, sesame oil, garlic powder and cajun seasoning.
