Released in 1968, The Green Berets is an American war film directed by John Wayne and Ray Kellogg, featuring Wayne, David Janssen, and Jim Hutton in leading roles.
Based on Robin Moore’s 1965 novel, the film was primarily shot in the summer of 1967. While the screenplay diverges from the book in several aspects, it retains certain elements – such as a plotline where a woman seduces a North Vietnamese communist general, leading to his capture by American forces.
The experts explained: “It’s also mostly seen as inaccurate. The pro-war sentiment forces the movie to ignore the injustices handed out by American soldiers.
“It appeared those behind the movie were so focused on getting the message across they sacrificed geographical details and flattened the perspective of Vietnamese people impacted by the war.”
