Liverpool announce seven players have left as statement released | Football | Sport

Liverpool have confirmed the departure of seven academy players following the end of their contracts.

Dominic Corness, Louis Enahoro-Marcus, Harry Evers, Lee Jonas, Jakub Ojrzynski, Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman, none of whom had featured for the Reds’ first team, have all left the newly-crowned Premier League champions to seek new opportunities.

Concurrently, Liverpool have proposed fresh contracts to eight young talents – Kareem Ahmed, Emmanuel Airoboma, Keyrol Figueroa, Kyle Kelly, Michael Laffey, Wellity Lucky, Terence Miles and Ranel Young – in a bid to retain them at Anfield.

Among those departing, local lad and midfielder Corness, 22, was closest to breaking into the first-team setup, having played in a mid-season friendly against Lyon in December 2022. He also had loan stints with Swiss side Yverdon Sport and League Two outfit Gillingham during his tenure with the Reds.

Polish goalkeeper Ojrzynski, also 22, warmed the bench during Liverpool’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United in February 2021. He was loaned out five times during his spell with the Reds, featuring for Welsh side Caernarfon Town, Polish club Radomiak Radom, Dutch outfit Den Bosch, Cypriot team Spartakos Kitiou and Swedish side Utsiktens BK.

The club holds high expectations for all the players who have been offered new deals, specifically US youth international Figueroa, son of former Wigan Athletic and Hull City full-back Maynor Figueroa.

Young, a forward, is another player Liverpool have high expectations for, and he was included on the bench by Arne Slot for the 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Brighton in October.

Slot’s first team will begin pre-season training on 7 July, with Liverpool announcing their first summer friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale six days later, before they set off for a tour of Japan.

Liverpool have already secured their first summer signing, right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, and remain hopeful of finalising a club record deal with the same club for Germany star Florian Wirtz.

In the coming days, Liverpool also hope to complete a deal for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.
