Netflix is removing a popular family comedy this month which fans have described as being “devastatingly underrated”. Users have just days to watch the sweet natured 2023 film Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

The Judy Blume adaptation proved a hit with movie lovers with this joyous gem of film having a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film which vibrantly brings the novel to life follows 11-year-old Margaret Simon who is informed by her parents Barbara and Herb that her family is moving to a new neighbourhood from New York City.

With her life uprooted Margarey starts to contemplate everything about life, friendship and adolescence.

Set in 1970, the film stars Abby Ryder Fortson as the title character, along with Rachel McAdams, Elle Graham, Benny Safdie, and Kathy Bates.

This American coming-of-age comedy-drama had its world premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival on April 23, 2023, and was released theatrically in the United States on April 28, 2023, by Lionsgate. It received positive reviews, however it was a box office flop grossing just $21 million worldwide.

The Rotten Tomatoes’s Critics Consensus says: “Effervescent and refreshingly frank about the travails of puberty, this long-awaited adaptation does full justice to Judy Blume’s seminal novel.”

One user on Reddit believes Rachel McAdams who plays Margaret’s mum “deserves an Oscar”.

The reviewer wrote: “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret is a masterpiece and Rachel McAdams deserves an Oscar.”

Whilst Popcornmeter, who scored the film an incredibly high 94% says: “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. stays true to the classic book right down to its ’70s setting, but the story still feels totally current and relatable.”

Despite its rave reviews Netflix is axing the film as part of the streaming giant’s plans to remove a large selection of films this month.

The last day to watch this heartwarming film on Netflix is June 16.

Those who wish to watch this sweet natured film can also catch it on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, YouTube and Sky Store.
