The drama film on Amazon Prime branded a 'masterpiece' with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score

Some films are so profound they stay with you for a lifetime, and this courtroom epic does just that. Directed by Sidney Lumet in his stunning feature debut, it has been hailed a “masterpiece” and one of the “best courtroom dramas in cinematic history” by professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes, who scored it a perfect 100%.

Rather than telling the story through loud theatrics, 12 Angry Men captures viewers with its quiet and gritty screenplay that explores themes of justice, prejudice, and moral responsibility. Unfolding almost entirely within a single jury room, the 1957 classic follows 12 jurors tasked with delivering a unanimous verdict in a seemingly open-and-shut murder case.

But, as tensions rise and personalities clash, one lone dissenting voice begins to question the evidence and the assumptions that come with it.

The thought-provoking drama stunningly portrays how personal biases and societal pressures can cloud judgment, and how courage and empathy can challenge the status quo.

One professional critic wrote: “A film like 12 Angry Men comes around once in a lifetime, and it will remain a blueprint for what a masterpiece looks like.”

Another added: “12 Angry Men is one of the best courtroom dramas in cinematic history.”

A third praised the director’s bold choice to rely on the brilliance of his story and actors, rather than relying on common film techniques.

They wrote: “Sidney Lumet’s solid success is achieved without even once resorting to flashbacks or other standard procedures of the film trade.

“The secret rests in spirited dialogue, realistic setting and, of course, the excellent cast of outstanding character actors.”

The film is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
