A new Elden Ring project is in the works, but it’s not for PS5, Xbox Series X, PC or even Nintendo Switch.
Instead, Bandai Namco has announced plans to team up with A24 to release a live action movie adaptation of the popular fantasy game.
According to Bandai Namco, the upcoming Elden Ring movie will be written and directed by Alex Garland, whose previous credits include Ex Machina, Annihilation and Civil War. Garland has also written the likes of 28 Days Later, Sunshine and Dredd.
Bandai Namco explains more: “To bring the epic world and intense action of ELDEN RING to film, the project will be led by filmmaker Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Civil War, Warfare) as writer and director.
“The film will be produced by Peter Rice alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, and George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.”
There’s no word on a release date, so fans will have to make do with the video game for now, which is getting a new lease of life thanks to a Switch 2 port.
Titled Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, the Nintendo Switch 2 port features the base game as well as the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Fans can also expect a selection of bonus items, which include new weapons, items, armour and skins for your horse.
In addition to a Nintendo Switch 2 port, Bandai Namco is about to release a spinoff called Elden Ring Nightreign for PS5, Xbox and PC.
Set in a universe parallel to the events of Elden Ring, players must “outlast a three day-and-night cycle”, culminating in a boss battle at the end of the adventure.
It’s described as a “condensed action RPG”, where players will never experience the same journey twice.
There’s a roguelike element to the game, with players earning relics to to customise and upgrade their characters for future runs and increase stats.
The action is also limited to a version of Elden Ring starting area Limgrave, although it looks like the locations will shift during each playthrough.
