The UK is braced for a barrage of rainfall this weekend with temperatures also expected to drop. The latest maps from forecaster WX Charts predict downpours across most of the nation on Saturday (May 24).
The maps show a band of rain spanning from the south coast of England all the way to Scotland and the North Sea. It covers a number of major cities including Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Up to 5mm of downpours could fall per hour in Carlise while the mercury is expected to drop as low as 8C in Yorkshire.
The heavy rain is expected to arrive at 12am on May 24. Most parts of England will see rain fall at a rate of 1mm per hour while areas in the north will be hit by heavier downpours.
Then the band of rain will shift east as the morning goes on. By 12pm, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester will be hit by further rain with some showers also forecast in Southampton.
Meanwhile, temperatures could also drop across the UK on Saturday. According to WX Charts, temperatures will be as low as 13C in Birmingham at 12pm, while Bristol and Manchester will see temperatures of 13C.
In London, it could reach as low as 10C while it will drop to 12C in Newcastle. The South West is expected to be the warmest region with temperatures of 14C forecast for Plymouth.
The Met Office outlook for Friday (May 23) to Saturday says that the heavy rain could also be accompanied by strong winds. The forecaster states: “Rain or showers spreading from west to east Friday night into the weekend, accompanied by strong winds in places.”

This Evening and Tonight:
Early showers dying out across southern England to leave a mostly dry night with clear periods. Patchy fog in the west and some frost in the north. However, cloud and patchy rain developing across the north and east of England.
Thursday:
An area of cloud will move southwestwards across England and Wales, bringing the odd light shower. Otherwise a fine day with plenty of sunshine. Warm in the southwest, fresher elsewhere.
Outlook for Friday to Sunday:
Largely dry with some sunshine after a chilly start on Friday. Rain or showers spreading from west to east Friday night into the weekend, accompanied by strong winds in places.
