Banish ‘yellow’ sweat stains from clothes with no scrubbing thanks to 1 thing

White T-shirts, jumpers and other pieces of clothing are risky to wear for those who are prone to spilling things or getting dirty. But another thing many people risk getting over time, even if they manage to avoid any spills, is yellow stains in the arm pits.

The reason this happens is when sweat mixes with the ingredients in your antiperspirant, which can create a yellow hue on white clothing. No matter how many things you try to use to clean it, it can feel impossive to lift the sweat stains.

It can be devastating when this happens, as you might think your favourite top is ruined. This is what happened to one disgruntled mum, who shared a picture of her son’s T-shirt on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook.

Along with a picture of a white T-shirt with a stain in the armpit, the woman wrote: “Terrible photo but my son’s T-shirt has gone yellow/green in the armpits where he has obviously been sweating. I have washed it twice, scrubbing with Vanish, but doesn’t seem to be coming out. I don’t want to throw the T-shirt as it is a good make and hardly been worn. Any ideas greatly appreciated.”

Many savvy cleaners came to the woman’s rescue with their own soluations, but there was one product that kept being mentioned – Dr Beckmnn Deo & Sweat Stain Remover. One person wrote: “I’ve just purchased Dr Beckmann stain – sweat remover! It’s brilliant. I’ve tried everything.” Another simply said: “Dr Beckmann Deoderant and Sweat. It’s brilliant,” while another replied: “It works really well!”

Someone else wrote: “Another recommendation for the Dr Beckmann Sweat & Deodorant remover. You’ll probably need to spray the fabric on this from both sides and leave it to sit for a bit before washing but it will shift it.”

Dr Beckmann’s Deo & Sweat Stain Remover “eliminates stains and odour from anti-perspirant and sweat residue” as well as removing “yellow and white marks”. It costs £3.19 from the Dr Beckmann website, but can also be purchased from Amazon.

Other helpful cleaning fans shared their own recommendations, including Elbow Grease. “Elbow Grease is amazing or Ace. They both get rid of the smell too,” said one person. Another wrote: “Elbow Grease always works for me, spray both sides, leave for an hour, then put in hot water and rub!”

Others recommended to try soaking in white vinegar, Napisan, soda crystals or lemon juice.

In order to avoid yellow sweat stains in the future, several commenters recommended avoiding antiperspirant. One person wrote: “Try a more natural deodorant my part got this all the time but since changing to a more natural deodorant without all the chemicals this doesn’t happen anymore.”
