Households in England urged not to go outside between 11am and 3pm on Sunday | UK | News

Households in England have been advised not to go outside on Sunday between 11am and 3pm as soaring temperatures are likely to blast parts of the UK. According to BBC weather, Sunday will see the high temperatures of 26C in areas around London.

The weather forecast suggests that Sunday will probably remain the hottest day of the week as temperature levels begin to drop a little from Monday. As the mercury levels soar, Brits have been urged to stay indoors, and especially between 11am and 3pm. According to the experts, the UV rays are the strongest during these four hours and can lead to heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses if not taken care of.

With the rising temperature levels, the households have been advised to keep their windows closed during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has cooled down.

The NHS explained: “If you have to go outside, stay in the shade especially between 11am and 3pm, wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothes, and avoid exercise or activity that makes you hotter.

“Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Check the temperature of rooms, especially where people at higher risk live and sleep.”

Apart from closing windows, it is also advisable to cover the windows with blinds, curtains, or external shutters.

The British Red Cross Society said: “If you don’t have anything to block out the sun, hanging a bed sheet or towel should have a similar effect.”

Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.

If someone faces heat exhaustion, the NHS advises them to move to a cool place, remove all unnecessary clothing like a jacket or socks.

Get them to drink a sports or rehydration drink, or cool water. It is also suggested to cool their skin – spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them. Cold packs, wrapped in a cloth and put under the armpits or on the neck are good too.
