Police are appealing for witnesses after two serious sexual assaults were reported near Digby and Sowton Station in Exeter on Friday night. The incidents happened between 8.45pm and 10pm.
A 16-year-old girl was raped on Clyst Halt Avenue at around 9pm. Shortly after, at around 9.30pm, a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on the station platform and again while travelling on a train towards Exeter St David’s. A 19-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault. He remains in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth of Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Detectives are investigating reports of two very serious incidents which occurred in Exeter last night.
“Both victims are being supported by specialist officers and at this time, we are not seeking anyone else in relation to these incidents.”
DCI Pebworth added: “We believe that there were lots of people in the area of Digby and Sowton last night and we are urging anyone with information which may assist us to please get in touch.
“A number of scene guards will be in place today as we continue our investigation and there is an increased high visibility presence.”
