It has been announced that Queen Margrethe has been admitted to hospital in Copenhagen as a consequence of a cold. It is understood that the former Queen, who abdicated in 2024 in favour of her eldest son, King Frederik X, is being treated in Rigshospitalet for observation as a precaution.

Earlier today, it was reported that the former monarch was forced to cancel an upcoming public engagement on Thursday as she had fallen ill. She was due to take part in celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the Sankt Lukas Foundation in Hellerup, a foundation that provides health and welfare services in Denmark.

There has been no statement issued on the former Queen’s health, however, the event on the Royal Family’s calendar now states: “Cancelled,” and according to Danish publication, Billed-Bladet.
