A chip shop worker has described her journey to online fame through her behind the counter TikToks.

Destiny Harold, better known as the “chip shop diva”, has helped catapult Merchants fish and chip shop to online stardom with her colleague Mitch Key thanks to their engaging and funny content.

The videos have led to the account garnering 259,000 followers with their videos being liked over seven million times.

Ms Harold, a trainee nurse who works in the shop two days a week says she cannot believe how popular the account has become.

She told the BBC: “They’ve been coming in asking for pictures and everything, people come and ask for a can of pop just to see me.

Owner Antony Akathiotis wants to make sure that his employees are cared for following their new found fame.

He told the Dudley News: “Destiny and Mitch work really well together but social media can be a scary business.

“It does worry me and we want to make sure we are protecting Destiny.”

The TikTok account was the idea of Mitch Key, who has worked in the shop for around three years.

Having originally started as a way to show off the shop and promote its food, he says it soon went huge.

Mr Key said: “We’ve always wanted to get the staff involved and show that human, real, raw aspect of the business.”

In recent years, TikTok has become a great way for local businesses to broaden their reach and stand out from the crowd.

Accounts with food are a strong niche on the site, with chefs, farmers and even a jacket potato seller using the site to increase their revenue in recent years.
