Experts have shared where sauces should be stored – and it might not be where you’ve been keeping them. If you keep your sauces in the cupboard, you’re not the only one but an expert has solved the debate once and for all. He says sauce should be kept in the fridge in a final answer to the age-old debate.
Storing sauces in the cupboard could lead to illness, says Joshua Houston, a food storage expert at Household Quotes who has warned against storing sauce bottles in your cupboard. He said: “Bottled sauce is hugely important when it comes to some meals, ketchup with chips is a common sight across the country. No sauce can leave some dishes tasting dry.
“But ensure that you are storing your sauces properly, the last thing you want is to get ill from consuming something that has gone off.
“Refrigerating also allows you to get more for your money, as it gives you more time to finish the sauce before binning.”
Heinz has also weighed in on the debate, after a study of 2,000 Brits found that four in 10 have been getting it wrong.
They have been storing their Heinz Tomato Ketchup in the cupboard, and not the fridge.
The research found residents in Sheffield were among the worst offenders. Almost two-thirds (62%) kept their sauce in the cupboard.
Olivia Lennon, at Heinz Tomato Ketchup said: “There was only ever one correct answer, and we’re happy to share with Heinz Tomato Ketchup lovers across the UK that our ketchup has to be in the fridge.
“Although we’re aware many Heinz Tomato Ketchup fans have been storing their ketchup in the cupboard, we do recommend refrigeration after opening.
“This is the best way to maintain the delicious tangy taste of our Heinz Tomato Ketchup that you know and love.”
If you’ve been keeping your sauce in the cupboard, now is the time to swap it to the fridge.
