Manchester United warmed up for their crucial Europa League semi-final trip to Bilbao on Thursday by narrowly escaping a 16th Premier League defeat this season. Antoine Semenyo’s powerful first-half strike opened the scoring, but Rasmus Hojlund rescued a 1-1 draw for the visitors with a stoppage-time tap-in.
Express Sport runs through the player ratings from the Vitality Stadium after more late drama involving Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils.
Man Utd player ratings vs Bournemouth
Andre Onana: 5
Would’ve needed super strength to keep out Semenyo’s driving finish. Showed a lack of authority inside the box, and his distribution was all over the place.
Leny Yoro: 6
A few sloppy moments in the first half but grew into the game and was largely dominant in his duels.
Harry Maguire: 6
United’s best striker was manhandled at every opportunity on set pieces but the officials turned a blind eye. Early substitution suggests he will start against Athletic Club.
Luke Shaw: 3
First start of the season, and it showed. Still hasn’t reached full fitness after such a long spell on the sidelines, but the fact he completed a full match is cause for optimism.
Noussair Mazraoui: 6
The better of United’s wing-backs attacking and defensively. Won most of his duels against Bournemouth’s wide threat. Has become far more important than he already was after Diogo Dalot’s injury.
Casemiro: 6
Completed the most passes and made the most tackles before leaving the pitch after 65 minutes. He’ll have a part to play in Bilbao.
Kobbie Mainoo: 6
Completed the most take-ons before joining Casemiro in going off after the hour mark. United’s midfield two were fine.
Patrick Dorgu: 4
Struggled to influence the game. Booked for cleanly winning the ball. Referee Peter Bankes was poor. But so was his crossing.
Bruno Fernandes: 5
Alejandro Garnacho had to finish his perfect lofted through ball. Offside flag later saved the captain’s blushes when Garnacho returned the favour to put the ball on a plate inside the box.
Alejandro Garnacho: 3
The difference in quality in front of goal between Bournemouth’s attacking players and United’s was damning. Composure evaded him in a one-on-one chance in the first half.
Rasmus Hojlund: 6
Invisible again… until he came up with a well-timed equaliser late on. Chido Obi looked much more of a handful after joining him on the pitch, but the Dane produced a big moment when he needed it.
Substitutes
Manuel Ugarte: 5
Well rested for Bilbao but looked knackered after coming on. Dribbled past more than once.
Mason Mount: 6
Denied an equaliser by a last-ditch block.
Victor Lindelof: 6
It was predominantly United’s attack against Bournemouth’s defence after he came on.
Chido Obi: 6
Is he better than Hojlund? He genuinely could be. So much more of a handful than the £72million man.
Christian Eriksen: N/A
On for Patrick Dorgu in stoppage time.
