Michael van Gerwen has revealed that he will not represent the Netherlands at the World Cup of Darts. The three-time world champion is instead set to enjoy a ‘holiday’ whilst the competition unfolds.
The World Cup of Darts is set to return to Frankfurt, Germany, this year, and the Netherlands’ hopes will therefore lie largely with Gian van Veen.
Asked by dartsnews.com whether he could be set to join forces with the 22-year-old at the competition, Van Gerwen said: “I won’t be part of the team this year – I’m on holiday.
“Maybe it’s an option in the future – but you never know what might happen. Maybe I’ll never play in the World Cup of Darts again.”
