A cleaning fan and motherhood creator has shared a quick and easy way to clean your showerhead with minimal fuss. Yana, who goes by Awesome Motherhood on TikTok, shared the hack with her followers in a video last week.
Attributing the hack to her grandmother, Yana promises it will clean any shower head thoroughly without the need for chemical or commercial cleaners. All you’ll need for the hack is a sandwich bag, some vinegar, and a rubber band or two. In the video, Yana demonstrated how to complete the hack.
She wrote in the caption: “This lifehack will help you quickly clean your shower head.”
How to clean a showerhead
Unseal a sandwich bag and slot the showerhead in it. Add a generous amount of white vinegar to the bag, being careful not to spill it.
Turn on the showerhead to add enough water into the bag so the showerhead is submerged in the solution. Reseal the sandwich bag as much as it will allow.
To make sure the bag doesn’t fall, wrap a rubber band – or more than one – around the neck of the showerhead, securing it. Yana then covers the bag with some tin foil.
Leave the showerhead to soak for enough time. The solution should dissolve any grime and leave the showerhead sparkling.
White vinegar works as a good cleaning solution and alternative to chemical cleaners due to its acidity, which allows it to dissolve dirt, grime, and grease, and kill some bacteria. It’s a natural, non-toxic option for cleaning various surfaces and even tackling stubborn stains and unwanted odours.
Yana’s video has already been viewed over a massive 10.6 million times, receiving 237,700 likes and 938 comments. Not everyone was convinced by the hack, while others agreed that it worked.

Although Yana doesn’t explain why she uses tin foil in her hack, a number of viewers theorised that it is to show the before and after effect of the method.
