The expert added: “However, these shortcuts could cause serious risks, especially if safety has been compromised and regulations violated. In some cases, drivers could even be fined if dash cam installations fail to meet local standards.
“One of the biggest issues associated with these videos is that occasionally, the dash cams can obstruct driver visibility because of improper camera placement. UK regulations state that dash cams should be positioned outside the swept area of the windshield wipers, and ideally behind the rear view mirror.
“If improperly placed, dash cams can block a driver’s line of sight, leading to fines of up to £1,000, and points added to driver licenses, which would have a direct impact on car insurance premiums. So be sure to always ensure that placement doesn’t obstruct rear visibility and aligns with rear wiper zones for a clear view.”
