Marvel Rivals studio planning crucial change for Season 2

Marvel Rivals has been a big hit since launching in late 2024, attracting millions of players on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.

Part of the game’s success is down to the fact that developer NetEase has consistently updated and improved the experience since launch, releasing regular software patches on an almost weekly basis. The trend is set to continue in April, when NetEase launches a brand new season for Marvel Rivals, complete with new characters, modes and even more gameplay upgrades. This includes a crucial fix for a particularly troublesome issue on PC.

As pointed out by PC Gamer, Marvel Rivals is consuming enormous amounts of RAM on PC. This has resulted in subpar performance for fans with just 16GB of memory.

In an interview with the outlet, lead technical designer Weikang Ruan said that a fix is in the works, and could launch in Season 2.

Ruan said: “On PC, we realise that [optimisation] is a big problem, especially for the memory consumption.

“So it may be that in Season 2, we will have an experimental check box in our launcher players can use to reduce memory [consumption] significantly.

“It’s a very big problem, but it’s a lot of work to organise [a fix]. We cannot just release it in a small patch. We have to fully test it. But we realise the problem and we’re going to keep optimising.”

Based on the Season 1 Battle Pass timer, the next Marvel Rivals season is expected to start on April 11. This gives NetEase a couple of weeks to get the optimisation patch ready.

The news comes just hours after the release of a new Venom-themed Pick-Up Bundle for Marvel Rivals.

Available for £2.69, the Marvel Rivals Pick-Up Bundle contains the Venom – Hyper Orange skin. The new Venom skin is instantly unlocked when you purchase the bundle, while additional rewards are available after every three matches played.

This includes three lots of 50 Chrono Tokens, as well as a Spray, a Costume Coin and a Nameplate. The Costume Coin lets you grab a new outfit for another character from the item shop.

The bundle launched alongside a big new update, which contained fixes for various maps, game modes and individual characters.
