Morrisons is giving priority to women at checkouts this weekend in a major change across its stores.
The supermarket chain will introduce ‘Mum’s Lanes’ in all stores nationwide in honour of Mother’s Day, on Sunday March 30. A total of 497 Mums-only checkouts will be opened for one-day only to allow busy parents to breeze through the checkout. Morrisons says the new checkouts will feature signage so they can’t be missed by mums and will be staffed by the stores’ welcoming Customer Assistants.
The assistants will be on hand to scan items through the checkout, so mums don’t have to, and will help with packing the shopping as well, if mums wish.
As an extra treat, Morrisons will also be giving away nearly 50,000 boxes of Guylian chocolates at these checkouts across the country to ensure mums leave the store “with a smile and a sweet treat”.
And for mums who are shopping with their little ones, Morrisons Customer Assistants will be on hand to help entertain them by asking them to identify various supermarket products and inviting them to see how to operate the tills.
Morrisons says the aim is to make the shopping experience as easy and enjoyable as possible for mums and their family.
Shoppers will also be able to earn rewards for themselves while picking up a present for their mum. The Best chocolates and fudge products from the Market Street Cakeshop will reward More Card members with 50 points, while buying Giant Cookies will earn up to 500 points.
Gareth Lloyd, Head of Marketing Events at Morrisons, said: “The reality is that many mums still end up doing chores like the weekly shop on Mother’s Day – even though it is supposed to be the day that they are spoiled!
“Therefore, we’ve launched Mums’ Lanes in stores to give a little something back to all the mums shopping with us on their special day.”
