Hitting the slopes is an ideal way to spend some time off and a trip that’s sure to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re still looking to book a getaway for the Easter holidays, it’s not too late to get something in the diary.
SportsCover Direct has shared the most affordable ski resorts to visit in April. Looking at data for 30 of the most popular ski resorts across Europe, the insurance company compared the cost of a six-day ski pass with the number of slopes open at each resort, revealing which one will give you the most value for money. As Europe’s ski season typically ends in late April, resorts often begin to wind down operations during the month. This can be great for getting more space on the slopes, but it can also leave unlucky travellers with fewer routes to explore.
So making sure you find a ski resort that’s still got plenty of slopes open is important to consider when booking a trip.
SportsCover Direct has revealed that Mayrhofen in Austria is the most affordable ski resort this April, with 90% of their trails still open in April. With a six-day ski pass available for £246, it’s a perfect option for travellers looking to be budget-conscious.
As the average cost of a one-day ski pass at European resorts has risen to £55.58, a visit to Mayrhofen instead works out at a more affordable £41 a day.
Sean Walsh, Head of Marketing at SportsCover Direct, said: “When planning a ski trip, affordability is a key consideration for many skiers. Beyond flights and accommodation, the cost of ski passes can significantly influence your overall budget.”
The Austrian town, which is only an hour from Innsbruck, is home to Austria’s steepest piste, the Harakiri. But there are plenty of beginner-friendly slopes to choose from, too, and the ski resort has a number of ski schools for children.
Sean added: “For the best balance of price and skiable area in April, Mayrhofen in Austria (€295) offers unbeatable value with 90% of its runs still accessible late in the season.”
The list also found that a six-day pass at La Rosiere in France only costs £241, which is cheaper than Mayrhofen. However, only 64% of slopes are open in April. After Mayrhofen on the list is Bormio in Italy, with 86% of its trails still open in April and a six-day pass costing £259, making it another cost-effective choice.
