The tower that’s actually the world’s largest vertical maze | World | News

Dubai holds over 425 Guinness World Records, more than any other country in the Middle East.

The emirate boasts the tallest building in the Burj Khalifa, which stands at over 828 metres.

It also has the largest shopping mall, fountain and deepest pool to name just a few of its record-setting monuments.

Dubai is also home to the 55-storey Maze Tower, located in the heart of its Financial District.

What makes this building unique is the design of its facade, which is in fact a real puzzle made from the intricate lines of balconies on the front and rear.

The design uses natural stones and illuminations in different colours to make it appear light and reflective.

The labyrinth was created by the famous maze maker Adrian Fisher, a British pioneer responsible for more than 700 mazes in 42 countries since 1979.

“We always wanted The Maze to look like it was carved out of one massive piece of rock, with the constant play of light and shadow to render it alive”, Hassan Abdulla Al Rostamani, vice chairman of Al Rostamani Group, told The Peninsula Quarter.

The building has been recognised by the Guinness World Records (GWR) as the largest vertical maze on the globe.

In a citation on its website, the GWR writes: “The largest vertical maze is situated on the front facade of Al Rostamani Maze Tower and has a surface area of 3,947.22 m² (42,487.35 ft²).

“The building was completed in January 2012, in Dubai, UAE.”

The skyscraper has 25 floors with offices and 24 with apartments. There is also a garden floor in the middle of the building and a rooftop maze garden.

The tower additionally boasts an eight-metre circular video wall – the Maze Eye – at the top of the building which can beam images at great distances.

The Maze Tower was developed by the property developer Al Rostamani and took seven years to build.

Construction began in 2005 and was completed by 2012. It is located on Sheikh Zayed Road.
