Meghan Markle’s new Netflix show is unpopular in Britain because it “seems performative rather than authentic” and is “tone deaf”, an expert has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, celebrated the release of her new show “With Love, Meghan” last week after it aired on March 4.
However, while the series, which saw Meghan cooking and hosting for celebrity friends, received some good reviews, it was also hit with some brutal criticism. The Duchess herself was also criticised by members of the British public along with the show, with many Britons failing to warm to the-mum-of-two since she quit royal life with Prince Harry in 2020.
James Holton, Consumer Behaviour and Social Media Expert at GrowthScribe, has now told Express.co.uk that the failure of the new Netflix show in Britain is “not even a surprise”, and is down to a few key reasons.
He said: “British audience loves understated and self-depreciating humour, which was missing from Meghan’s show.
“It feels overly curated and seems performative rather than authentic.
“I’d also like to call it a case of hype fatigue, where UK audiences, saturated by years of Meghan overload, crave novelty, not recycled royal vibes.
“Brits prioritize value-driven content and Meghan’s show felt tone deaf, especially at a time when inflation is high.”
The insight comes just days after Meghan’s show was also slammed by the duchess’ estranged father Thomas Markle, who she last saw in 2018. Mr Markle said the show felt “pre-planned” as he claimed Meghan was “faking it for the cameras”.
He told The Mail: “Everything she says is pre-planned and rehearsed. It makes me laugh because I know all her looks and expressions. I know when she’s faking it for the cameras. She’s trying so hard to be perfect that she tenses up every time the camera is on her.”
Despite such criticism, “With Love, Meghan” has been renewed for a second season.
