Royal fans have flocked to praise King Charles after new photographs show the monarch performing CPR on a medical test mannequin at the Royal College of Nursing yesterday. The King, 76, was invited to try giving CPR on the mannequin during his visit to the organisation, which aimed to celebrate a scheme that introduces young people to the healthcare industry.

The King, who has been trained in CPR, joined a demonstration on how to give CPR correctly. The monarch was all smiles as he showed off his skills and pumped the mannequin’s chest. He received a round of applause and later joked: “At least I haven’t broken it.”

Since photographs of the monarch’s attempt at CPR were published online yesterday, royal fans have been quick to praise the King and the awareness he would have raised through his actions.

One person wrote on Instagram: “So happy to see this. CPR is a skill every person in the land should be trained in, you never know when you might need to use it – thank you King Charles!”

A second said: “Doing chest compressions are hard, good demo from the King.”

A third wrote: “Right on. Every person should know, and someday, might do. Examples are powerful.”

Elsewhere on the visit yesterday, King Charles watched cadets practise the technique for removing a blockage from a patient’s throat.

He also watched as the young people learnt about hygiene best practices in nursing and healthcare.

His visit came as the organisation celebrated the 1,000th RCN King’s Nursing Cadet, with the scheme having been first launched in 2019.
