Forget GTA 6, new Rockstar Games update gives fans hope of a surprise sequel

It looks like GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games may be planning its next triple-A blockbuster.

Rockstar Games recently purchased Australian studio Video Games Deluxe, which was responsible for L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files and has worked on updates for GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Now renamed Rockstar Australia, Video Games Deluxe is helmed by original L.A. Noire director Brendan McNamara, which has led to speculation that a sequel to the open-world detective game may be in the works.

Responding to the takeover, McNamara said: “It’s been an honour to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade.

“We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible.”

As of 2020, Video Game Deluxe was said to be working on an open-world VR game for Rockstar, which was thought to be the Meta Quest port of GTA San Andreas. The game has since been put “on hold indefinitely”.

After receiving praise for fixing GTA Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, it’s possible Rockstar Australia will help clean up any bugs and in-game issues with GTA 6 ahead of launch.

However, what fans really want is a sequel to 2011 hit L.A. Noire, which would be the ideal follow-up to GTA 6.

Speaking of Grand Theft Auto 6, the game takes place in the state of Leonida, which is based on Florida.

Rockstar explains: “Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”

The previously released trailer gives fans a look some of the map locations as seen from the skies above. This includes locations based on the Florida Keys, as well as the beach and more.

The trailer also hints at a potential game-changing new feature for Grand Theft Auto 6, which will up the scale to never-before-seen levels.
