Police had launched a manhunt after a suspect jumped the fence at a Spanish monetary and murdered a priest in Valencia, local media reported.
The attacker also wounded seven clerics before escaping, according to Spanish outlet El Mundo.
The Provincial Minister said in a statement: “With deep surprise and pain we have received this morning the news that a disturbed person has entered the convent of Santo Espiritu del Monte…
“He attacked the brothers who were in their room, with the intention of killing the friars.”
During the violent attack, seven other members of the congregation, aged between 57 and 95, are undertood to have been attacked.
All were treated for their multiple injuries and three of them are in hospital. T
wo of the members who also live in the Valencian convent were unharmed, one because he was outside the building working in the garden and another because he was in the chaplaincy celebrating mass.
