Netflix is currently hosting three must-see films from the director of the latest cinema sci-fi sensation, which could be one of this year’s top films.

Mickey 17, now showing in cinemas, features Robert Pattinson as a disposable worker assigned to carry out deadly tasks on a perilous space mission.

When he dies, advanced technology is used to print a new version of his body. However, complications arise when another Mickey is prematurely printed.

The film is directed by renowned South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho and has received rave reviews for his darkly humorous and innovative thriller.

Currently, it ranks tenth on Rotten Tomatoes’ list of the best films of 2025 so far. One five-star review on Letterboxd hailed it as an Oscar contender that’s “even better” than Bong’s previous film, the Best Picture winner Parasite, describing it as “a biting comedy filled with heart and hope”.

For those who enjoy the rollercoaster ride of Mickey 17 and crave more, Netflix is presently streaming three of Bong’s remarkable films.

His 2013 post-apocalyptic thriller, Snowpiercer, continues to be regarded by many fans as the benchmark for contemporary sci-fi and even inspired a four-season TV series on TNT.

One five-star Google review praised it as: “A thrilling and thought-provoking sci-fi masterpiece, Snowpiercer masterfully blends action, social commentary, and dark humour into a relentless train ride through a frozen post-apocalyptic world.”

A Letterboxd enthusiast raved about a recent cinematic experience, proclaiming: “Hands down, one of the greatest science fiction films I’ve seen in years. Not only is it an audaciously ambitious art-house action spectacular, but also a taut social allegory about class and power.”

Following this success, director Bong Joon-ho collaborated with Netflix to release the 2017 original film Okja, another unique sci-fi thriller centred around a genetically modified animal’s daring escape.

One Google review praised the film, stating: “This movie was absolutely incredible.”

The reviewer was captivated by the blend of emotions, saying: “Somehow they made a sad, heartfelt story comedic at the same time! A beautiful story about a young girl Mija, who raised a genetically modified six-ton super-pig named Okja.

“When a multinational corporation takes Okja away, Mija goes on an adventure to rescue her friend, encountering various challenges and moral dilemmas about the ethics of animal treatment and corporate greed along the way.”

Film aficionados will be delighted to know that the critically lauded Parasite, South Korea’s most successful film ever and hailed as a contemporary classic, remains available for streaming. It boasts an impressive record on Letterboxd, amassing 1.9 million five-star ratings.

One glowing review captured its essence: “Perhaps the most nuanced and merciless look at economic inequity and wealth corruption ever presented on film.

“Without question, Parasite is an uncompromising masterpiece that deserves every ounce of praise it receives.”

It might just be the top film on Netflix at the moment, so ensure you don’t miss out now that it’s readily accessible to all subscribers.

Snowpiercer, Okja and Parasite are available to stream on Netflix. Mickey 17 is in cinemas now.
