Baxter’s Sliced Gherkins Crunchy & Sweet has been pulled from shelves after food safety organisations sounded the alarm. The sandwich and burger filling is commonly used across the UK and is sold for around £2.50 at most major supermarkets, including Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
It is believed that the sandwich and burger accompaniment contains undeclared mustard, which could threaten those with an allergy to the spice. The product’s manufacturer, Baxter’s Food Group, clarified that the recall only applies to certain jars with specific best-before dates. Batches included in the product recall warning include expiry dates of June 2026 and July 2026.

According to the NHS, a food allergy is where your body reacts to certain foods.
The health service added: “A food allergy is different from having a food intolerance, which causes symptoms such as bloating and tummy pain, usually a few hours after eating the food you’re intolerant to.”
Allergy symptoms can range from mild skin rash to severe, life-threatening ones affecting the airways.
If you fear you may suffer from an allergy or food intolerance, seek advice from a health professional.
