Meghan Markle was heavily criticised by a royal commentator who said her sister-in-law, Princess Kate “delivered a lesson in in the personal economics of demand and supply” with her hiatus earlier this year.

The Princess of Wales took a break earlier this year after she underwent major abdominal surgery and was hospitalised for nearly two weeks back in January before it was announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Kate’s post-operative tests after the surgery showed that ‘cancer had been present, according to the princess herself, and she ended up undergoing cancer treatment up until last month, when she announced in completion.

But by February the future Queen had not been seen at all since her big outing with the rest of the Royal Family on Christmas Day in 2023, while Meghan was dominating headlines with her latest projects like her podcast deal with Lemonada Media and the launch of the new Sussex website.

At the time, a royal commentator suggested that Meghan could learn a thing or two from Kate about how less exposure can deliver better results when it comes to popularity.

She wrote for news.com.au: “Harry and Meghan’s value, both commercially and as public figures, has deflated such that things can best be described in 2024 as flaccid.

“While Lemonada boasts a stable of impressive names – Julia Louis Dreyfss, Samantha Bee – this deal feels like a massive step down from the grand heights of audio giant Spotify and their very deep pockets.

“Contrast all of this with Kate. The woman [Kate] has not been seen, heard from, or done a single thing in months except continuing to exist and her stock has never been higher.”

She added: “The sudden removal of the Princess of Wales from the Buckingham Palace starting lineup has served to demonstrate how indispensable she is the future of the monarchy.

“The scarcity of Kate has made crystal clear just how precious of a commodity she is.”

“Really what Kate has delivered, inadvertently, is a lesson in the personal economics of demand and supply.”

The Princess of Wales has since announced her gradual return to public duties and is expected to attend this weekend’s Remembrance Day engagements.
