Meghan Markle’s recent panic move has been decoded by one PR and branding expert – and has included a major warning.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, took to Instagram earlier this week to announce that she has rebranded her lifestyle venture from “American Riviera Orchard” to “As Ever”. The major change has prompted analysis from experts about the strategic shift in her business approach.
The CEO of Go Up, Edward Coram James, has suggested that the major move could mean a shift in commercial strategy.
Speaking to GB News, he said: “‘As Ever’ ties in perfectly with the title of her new show, giving off a warm, motherly feel, almost like a handwritten letter.
“A name like ‘As Ever’ is short, catchy, and much easier to trademark globally. It gives her room to expand into all sorts of products without being stuck with the ‘orchard’ or a regional Santa Barbara feel.
“You can see this is part of a much bigger strategy to make the brand more appealing beyond just the US market.”
But he added: “I can’t help but feel there’s a bit of panic behind the move.”
Warning the Duchess of Sussex about her next steps, he added: “If ‘As Ever’ ends up just being a rebrand without addressing those key issues like making her products accessible and relatable beyond just the Montecito influencer crowd, then it’s going to come off as a shallow spin rather than any real evolution.”
He also warned Meghan that the next few months will be “critical” – especially is she is intending on making her new brand a success.
Following a poll conducted by the Express during 11am on February 19 and 9am on February 20, fans expressed their dislike over the new brand name – As Ever.
Taking to the comment section on the poll, one fan commented: “It’s a weird name. [It’s] like they did a word cloud and came up with the brand name from that.”
