Two royals are set to fly to Canada to join the Invictus Games celebrations alongside Prince Harry this weekend.
Prince Joachim and Princess Marie from the Danish Royal Family will attend various events at the Invictus Games this weekend – an event first set up by Prince Harry in 2014 to help wounded and injured servicemen and women.
The Danish royal couple – who live in America – will attend events today and tomorrow, which include meeting with Danish rowing and volleyball teams followed by a team dinner.
The pair will attend volleyball matches at the Games on Saturday. During their time in Canada, Joachim, 55, and Marie, 49, are also believed to attend two receptions related to the competition.
While they will be in close proximity to Prince Harry, who quit life as a senior member of the British Royal Family in 2020, it is not known whether they will be meeting him personally.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, is currently in Canada alone after his wife Meghan Markle, 43, flew back to their Californian home just days after the games began to be with the couple’s two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.
Like Harry and Meghan, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie did not have a long flight to Canada as the royal couple also live in America.
The couple currently live in Washington D.C. with their children, where Joachim – King Frederik of Denmark’s brother – serves as the military industry attaché at the Danish Embassy.
Before this, the couple lived together in Paris.
While the royal presence will be exciting for Invictus Games competitors, royal fans in the UK may be disappointed that no royals from the British Royal Family have flown out in support of Harry.
Although the duke is on talking terms with some of his royal relatives, tensions between Harry and some of the family remain strained, especially when it comes to his relationship with his now estranged brother Prince William.
Harry has not spoken about the Royal Family during his time in Canada for the Invictus Games, which ends on Sunday with a closing ceremony.
