In our modern and busy lives, finding nifty, quick, and easy hacks to help keep our homes tidy and smelling great is all the rage.

Everybody loves candles, whether they’re scented or not.

But what a lot of people don’t know is that candles can also provide another service and help with keeping water marks at bay.

Popular Youtube channel @annalouisaathome2284 shares a host of tips and tricks to ensure your home is in tip-top shape and smelling great, including the bathroom.

Her video entitled “Your favourite home hacks of 2024” proved a hit on social media thanks to her array of clever and simple ideas.

One of her hacks includes how to keep your bathroom taps looking extra shiny with a simple and super quick tip.

In the video she explains that by pouring a small amount of the candle wax directly onto your taps, then gently wiping it off with some warm water and you will have bright-looking taps without the pesky water marks present.

She further explains in a caption: “Rub candle wax on your taps and buff it in with a cloth to prevent water marks for longer. The water runs straight off!”

This handy tip works effectively as the candle wax creates a thin, water-repellent layer on the surface of your taps.

This further prevents water directly contacting the tap and later forming any visible water spots.

By using candle wax, water beads up and simply rolls off the metallic surface thanks to the wax barrier built up preventing mineral deposits or stains from forming.

Another cleaning expert explained how this hack works, further advising the best type of candle to use.

Carolina Kazimierski, president at Sophia’s Cleaning Service, said: “Candle wax won’t remove existing water stains, but it will do a good job of creating a barrier that will prevent those stains in the first place.”

The reason for this is that wax is an oil-based substance which doesn’t mix with water, meaning that “water can’t dissolve it or penetrate it.”

Ms Kazimierski added: “Candle wax has a lot in common with various forms of metal polish so it’s not going to damage your fixtures by itself.

When cleaning your taps with candle wax, the expert advises using unscented and plain wax candles or quality beeswax.

“Beeswax is not only eco-friendly but also softer than most forms of candle wax, making it easier to rub on,” Kazimierski adds.
