The individual dubbed as ‘Britain’s worst teen driver’ has once again found himself behind bars after crashing a car into a wall during a police chase.
Nineteen year old Haseeb Aziz, who has never held a licence and has been disqualified from driving seven times, had only recently been released from prison when he was caught on the roads in Blackburn, Lancashire.
Blackburn Magistrates’ Court heard how an observant police officer spotted Aziz at the wheel of a Renault Clio in the early hours. In a bid to evade capture, the young motorist darted into an alleyway, leapt from the moving vehicle, and crashed it into a wall.
Defence lawyer Daniel Frazer highlighted his client’s age and stressed the need for a change in behaviour. He noted: “The last two sentences have been custodial and that doesn’t seem to be working.”
Frazer also revealed that Aziz could not provide a satisfactory explanation for his reckless driving.
Last December, Aziz received a 22-week jail sentence following a string of driving offences. Throughout the previous year, the teenager was apprehended driving a stolen motorbike, an Audi with incorrect plates, a Volkswagen Polo, and a Volkswagen Golf.
His defence team claimed that driving provided him with a thrill and helped him forget personal problems.
Sentencing him last year, District Judge Preston remarked: “You have an absolutely appalling record for someone who is only 18 years old.”
He added, “All the offences committed this year were while you were subject to a community order imposed for similar offences.”
