When you think of a holiday in Cyrpus what comes to mind? Golden sand beaches, crystal blue seas and sunshine?
Well, yes the stunning island country does have all of that, but did you know that Cyprus is also a hiddem gem for ski holidays?
In fact, February is the best month to hit the slopes there according to experts.
Troodos is the largest mountain range in Cyprus. Located roughly in the centre of the island, it can’t be missed.
Between January and the end of March, the region experiences a sufficent amount of snowfall as well as a signifcant temperature drop, making it the ideal time for skiing and other winter activites.
The mountain range is home to the island’s only skiing centre operated by the Cyprus Ski Club and its found at Mount Olympus – the highest peak of the Troodos Mountains.
The Mount Olympus Ski Resort is made up of two areas – the Sun Valley and North Face both of which each have their own ski lifts and runs.
The resort is perfect for both beginner and advanced skiers, with facilities that caters to all, including beginner and advanced level slopes in sections and four T-bar ski lifts that range from 125 metres to 380 metres.
Not to mention that the mountain peak is only two kilometres from the Troodos Mountain resort, 12 kilometres from Platres mountain resort, and around a one hour drive from the gorgeous seaside town of Limassol, which in February reaches up to 18C.
In the summer, Limassol reaches a gorgeous 30C.
And it gets even better because, while some ski trips cost a fortune, Cyprus is a destination that doesn’t break the bank.
The island is one of the cheapest skiing destinations in Europe, with a day pass for adults costing 25 euros (£20.90) and 20 euros (£16.72).
Meanwhile, a skiing trip in France will see you pay anything between 40 and 90 euros.
So how do you get to the mountains? Direct flights from London Gatwick and Stansted will take you to the mountain range’s closest airport, Paphos. The airport is a 90 minute drive from the mountains.
However, from the airport there are multiple options to get to Troodos Mountains including bus excursions, taxis and even cycle to the mountains, making the region accessible for everyone.
