Princess Anne has revealed why life as a royal is harder for the younger generation, including the Princess of Wales.
In the documentary, ‘Anne: The Princess Royal at 70’, which aired in celebration of the royal’s milestone in 2020, Anne expressed her compassion for the new generation of working royals.
Speaking of her younger family members, Anne said: “The pressure that is applied to the younger members of the family, it’s always worse.
“That’s what the media is interested in. That’s hard sometimes to deal with.”
Highlighting the pressure of having social media in the present day, she added: “But there was no social media in my day, and it’s probably made it more difficult.”
Speaking of the online world, she added: “With online technology… being in touch is one thing but it’s not quite the same. The ability to meet people, that’s what makes the difference.
“I know what Twitter is, but I wouldn’t go anywhere near it if you paid me frankly. But that’s a slightly different issue.”
Unlike Anne, Princess Kate, 43, wasn’t born a royal but, rather, married into the Royal Family.
Although she met Prince William in 2003, their relationship grew at a steady rate, and the couple tied the knot in 2011.
The royal – who is mum to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – has blossomed into one of the most popular members of the Royal Family.
Speaking of what it takes to become royal, author Andrew Morton discussed Kate in his book title ‘The Queen‘.
He wrote: “I realised after watching the Royal Family for all these years that it takes a long, long time to really understand what it is like to be royal. Catherine Middleton has spent 10, 12 years coming to terms with it. It just takes a long time to absorb yourself into it.”
