King Charles’s secret coffee and tea ingredient revealed by his former butler | Royal | News

King Charles has a favourite ingredient to add to his drinks, whether that is tea or coffee, according to his former butler.

The King has long been known to enjoy tea throughout the day but according to Grant Harrold, he “probably” had coffee from time to time too but not without a particular sweetener.

Mr Harrold, who worked as a butler for King Charles between 2004 until 2011, revealed that the monarch prefers to add a spoonful of honey to both his coffee and tea instead of sugar.

Speaking on behalf of Coffee Friend, he said about Charels’s coffee and tea habits: “The late Queen, Prince Philip, and King Charles definitely prefer a cup of tea over coffee.

“They were tea lovers to the very end. They probably had coffee from time to time, but tea was their go-to.”

He added: “The King has famously said he prefers to have honey instead of sugar, so he would opt for that instead. It actually isn’t too bad!”

The King is known for his holistic approach when it comes to his diet and is said to follow a very healthy regime which includes homegrown vegetables, small meals and eggs from his chickens at Highgrove House.

His favourite tea is reportedly Darjeeling with milk and honey, presumable from his own bees at Highgrove.

According to the Sunday Times, he only likes it made with loose tea leaves in a teapot, “with the ration being one teaspoon of leaves per each cup of tea, plus one for the pot.”

Elsewhere, Mr Harrold spoke about whether King Charles and Queen Camilla have any specific requirements when it comes to milk in their hot drinks.

He said: “Oat milk has become quite popular recently, and I wouldn’t rule out that King and Queen Camilla have tried it once or twice.

“The King is a huge supporter of dairy farms and is a patron of the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, so he and the Queen are more likely to have your usual full-fat or semi-skimmed milk.”
